Hundreds of Passengers Forced to Evacuate Brisbane Airport After Fire Inside Domestic Terminal

Hundreds of passengers were forced to evacuate Brisbane Airport after smoke alarms went off in a terminal.

The alarm was sounded shortly before 4:30 p.m. in the Qantas domestic area of the airport after smoke was spotted coming from a cooking appliance, according to an airport spokeswoman.

The drama was short-lived, as passengers were allowed back into the terminal a short time later.

"Domestic Terminal alarms were activated. The situation has been resolved and things will return to normal shortly," the airport said in a statement.

It is believed the incident will result in "minor delays" for Qantas passengers, according to Nine News.

A number of passengers caught up in the dramatic event posted pictures of large crowds gathered outside the airport.

Stuart Elkins, one of the people evacuated, shared a photograph that appeared to show hundreds of passengers standing near the exits of the terminal.

Other pictures showed passengers sprawled across steps outside; while another showed desperately looking at screens to find out whether their flights had been delayed, after they returned inside.
