According to preliminary data on the Airport's performance, RIX Riga Airport handled 740 thousand passengers in August, which is 8 % more than in August last year. Since the beginning of the year, 4.6 million passengers and 41.5 thousand flights have been served.

Almost 569 thousand passengers used direct flights in August, or 8 % more than a year earlier. In the annual breakdown, the number of direct passengers also exceeds the pre-pandemic period – the indicator of August 2019 – by 2 %. Compared to last year, the number of travellers who use Riga Airport as a transfer point has increased by 7 percentage points. The number of transit and transfer passengers also shows an increase from a yearly perspective.

Manchester, Budapest, and Malaga were the most popular routes from Riga in August; the average flight occupancy increased to 87 percent.

At the end of August, the first "Kepler Club" capsule hotel was officially opened in the Riga Airport terminal, which is the first hotel of this type in the airports of the Baltic countries; several new drinking water fountains were also installed.

More than 6 000 flights were served at Riga Airport in August; of them, 5 451 were passenger aircraft, and the rest were air cargo, business, military, and other flights. During the month, 663 tonnes of air cargo were handled, almost half of which were transported by cargo flights, and slightly more than half by passenger or other flights. In August, the Uzbek air cargo carrier “Fly Khiva” performed the first cargo flight between Riga and Uzbekistan; generally, there is a gradual growth trend in the air cargo segment.
