A driverless van rolled away and struck a parked JetBlue plane early Friday morning at Boston's Logan International Airport.
Shortly after passengers boarded a 6 a.m. flight to Tampa, Florida, a nearby van went rogue, causing damage to the aircraft. There were no injures on board, according to JetBlue. According to reports, it was either a fuel van or a delivery van.
Passenger Chaz Hallock told local news station WCVB-TV that he felt the plane shake, and then looked out the window to see people chasing the van.
According to state police, the driver had exited the vehicle but forgot to put it in park. As it rolled away, he tried to stop the van.
“This attempt was unsuccessful, and the operator fell to the ground," Massachusetts State Police said in a statement. "The van struck the wing of the JetBlue aircraft, causing damage to the aircraft and the van."
Grounds crew managed to stop the van before it caused any further damage. Passengers were taken off the plane and put on a different aircraft, which left Boston at 7.30 a.m.
The aircraft has been taken out of service while it is inspected for damage, JetBlue said in a statement.
