Airbus inaugurates a second final assembly line for the A320 family in Toulouse

Airbus inaugurated a second modernized final assembly line for the A320 family at the Jean-Luc Lagardère site in Toulouse. The official opening ceremony was presided over by Guillaume Faury, Executive Chairman of Airbus, and Lars Wagner, Head of Airbus Commercial Aircraft, in the presence of the French Minister of Transport, Philippe Tabarot, as well as Airbus executives and several hundred employees.

Guillaume Faury, Executive Chairman of Airbus commented: “Bringing this new A320 family assembly line to life here in Toulouse is a source of pride for all of us and a remarkable achievement for our commercial aircraft teams. This facility provides the flexibility and capacity needed to meet strong market demand, particularly for the A321neo, and to support our ramp-up to a production rate of 75 A320 Family aircraft per month. This line, which operates in coordination with our assembly sites in Hamburg, Mobile, and Tianjin, supports our commitment to delivering aircraft that meet the highest quality standards to our customers around the world.”

To support the ramp-up of the A320 family, and following recent expansions in Mobile and Tianjin, the opening of this second Toulouse line marks a key step in Airbus’s strategy to have ten final assembly lines worldwide, all operational by 2026, for the entire A320 family. This global industrial network is spread across four international sites, comprising four lines in Hamburg (Germany), two in Mobile (United States), two in Tianjin (China), and two in Toulouse (France).

Located next to the first production line, which was inaugurated in July 2023 in the former A380 building—known as the Jean-Luc Lagardère facility—this facility optimizes existing industrial infrastructure while incorporating digital controls, automated logistics, and robotics to streamline workflows and improve workplace ergonomics.

While the first line already employs approximately 700 people, this second line will gradually ramp up to full capacity, ultimately bringing the total workforce for both lines at the Jean-Luc Lagardère site to nearly 1,500 people.
